It seems like every time I have a doctor’s appointment, I am going to run into someone I know and haven’t seen in a while. My “run into” last Thursday were Sue Weir and her sweet momma, Hazel Harris. Hazel’s son, Bro. Rickey Harris, is pastor of Tillatoba Baptist Church. I went to school with Hazel at Oakland.
Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Linda Shelton, and son-in-law, David Shelton, visited with Sheryn Sunday. They went to Grenada shopping and then by the truck stop to eat, like old times. We had a very good day. Sheryn said Linda brought her some new clothes, which she always appreciates.
Congratulations to fourth-grader Mary Brett Hartley and fifth-grader Rowland Hartley, 2023 local spelling bee winners. Rowland and Mary Brett will complete in the district spelling bee on Dec. 1. Congratulations to all the students who participated.
Friend Martha Box is still planning on old age (104), but “dadgum it, does time have to fly so fast?” she asked.
Martha had good food visits with sister Joyce Stevens at Corner Store and Catfish Hut. She also enjoyed a great visit with Tillatoba Baptist Church friends Sunday, and she said the service it lifted her spirits as always. “As Bro. Harris finished a statement with a good joyful laugh sound, a sweet baby made the same joyful sound! Now that was quite a finish to a great sermon!” Martha noted.
Ray Bell fell again Sunday afternoon and fractured his left hip right in the area where he had broken it. He was scheduled to have surgery Monday to repair it.
It was a busy weekend, reported Ginger Harrison. She said they attended Josh’s 4-H awards program where he won overall 4-H’er of the year. It was a really good event. There were over a hundred in attendance. Yalobusha County has a great group of 4-H youth.
Ginger said they also attended the homegoing service for Lucy Redwine Wright. “She was a special lady to us and will be missed,” noted Ginger, who added that Jake didn’t get to come home due to dress rehearsals for a choir concert.
Sunday afternoon, my daughter, Donna, and granddaughter, Miranda Procella, of Grenada, came up and son Tim Sullivan came down and they did a lot of work cleaning out a shed for me, moving stuff out and putting stuff in. It is something I had needed done for quite a while! Thank you all for doing that for me! I had the best time going through boxes and reminiscing about what I had found!
Happy anniversary to Wendy and Jason Pettit on the 18th! For a sixth anniversary, Jason, it is traditional to gift products made with iron or iron accents. Jason, son, that doesn’t mean to give Wendy an iron skillet and tell her to get in that kitchen and make you a skillet of cornbread. Just be very careful how you go about giving her the anniversary gift.
Belated happy birthday to my friend, Robert Camp, who celebrated the 12th; to my favorite brother-in-law, Tommy Hudson, on the 17th; to Diane Horn, also on the 17th; to the one who made me a grandmother first, granddaughter Miranda Procella, on the 21st; and to Cliff McCain, also on the 21st.
