Christian love and sympathy to the Beverly Lawson Hankins family. With her family by her side, Beverly Jewel Lawson Hankins, 67, passed from this life to the next on Jan. 24. The visitation was held at First Baptist Church, Ripley, from 12-2 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 27, with the funeral service following at 2. Ladies were encouraged to wear hats and bright colors, a trademark of Beverly’s. A private graveside service was held afterward.
I’ll take the rain any day rather than the ice. Snow I can handle, but snow and ice was a little too much.
Anna Elizabeth Pullen was surprised Saturday with a baby shower given by some special working friends of hers. She and Sam received some very nice gifts for baby Andrew. I know Joanna will be a big help to her mommy when her little brother arrives.
Shelia Jackson said she was so glad that the ice and snow is gone because she was “tired of the house.” Shelia also said to keep Davin Rowland in your prayers. “He has come a long way but has a long way to go. They have him up walking him some to build his strength. He is a miracle and is in the hands of the Lord. If you don’t believe in God, just look how far he has brought Davin,” Shelia noted. You are so right, Shelia. Sheila sends love and sympathy to the Rhonda Goad family.
Deborah McCool is still not over the flu. She and Tommy went to church but listened to the service sitting in the car. She was going to try to work some this week but was going back to Mediquick first.
Jake Rose is having eye surgery Thursday in Memphis. Prayers for you Jake.
Sam and Anna Pullen are waiting on their new arrival, a baby boy, Andrew James Pullen, who is due Feb. 21. Great-grandmother Diane Dukes says she believes it’ll be before then and she cannot wait to see her new great-grandson.
Speaking of great-grandsons, mine came for a visit Sunday. Bradley Holliday, his mother Francesca Holliday, daughter Donna Garripoli and Summer, and Miranda Procella, all from Grenada, came. We had a good afternoon watching the Chiefs win another ballgame!
Please pray for all the sick and shut-ins. I saw a great caption that said, “Gas is going up, food is going up, rent is going up. But when prayers go up, God’s blessings come down!” Amen!
Happy birthday to Terri Dukes and Logan Rose, who share a birthday the 29th. Starting our February birthdays, Amanda Hailey celebrates the 2nd, Romona (Mona!!!) Pryor Beardain will light her candles the 4th, Wayne Simmons the 6th and Wanda Crawford the 7th. I hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating your special day.
Martha Box was out and about some last week. She had a “wonderful lunch of livers Wednesday at Ole Corner Store.” She met several friends at Spencer’s Friday and so enjoyed it. “Laughed so much and so loud we could have been thrown out! Charles, Glenda Shumpert, Jimmy Jones, Shirley Simmons, Brenda Harlow, Gene Redwind, Larry Franklin, Jane Smith Taylor and Michael and Juliana Martin. What a crowd!” Martha said.
Martha said Ginger, Phil and her so handsome Josh Harrison came by to visit and brought her some of Diane’s great chicken and dumplings. “Mmm good!” Martha needs to slow that Mustang down!
Recipe for the week: Lemon Chicken Soup
Saute small amount of onion and celery until translucent. Use the pot you are going to cook your soup in.
Stir in two cans of chicken broth; one can of cream of mushroom, cream of chicken or cream of celery soup, your choice; one half-cup of real lemon juice; two cups of cooked rice; a pound of cheddar cheese, or more if you prefer; salt, pepper and red pepper to taste; and three chicken breasts cooked and pulled off of the bone. Simmer 15 minutes. This is so good on a cold winter's night.
Thought for the day: Age is something that doesn’t matter unless you are a cheese.
