June unemployment in Tallahatchie County rose to 4.7%, a climb of six-tenths of 1% from the revised May figure of 4.1%, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security revealed Tuesday.
The MDES, which compiles the state’s employment data, noted that 210 members of the county’s 4,540-person labor force were unemployed in June. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.
In May, 180 of 4,410 labor force members were jobless.
The county’s June jobless rate was eight-tenths of 1% higher than the 3.9% figure recorded in June 2024, when MDES showed that 190 of 4,770 available laborers 16 years of age and older did not find work.
The Mississippi unemployment rate stood at 4.5% in June, a jump of seven-tenths of 1% from the 3.8% rate in May. Compared to the jobless figure of 3.9% in June 2024, the latest rate is six-tenths of 1% higher.

MDES noted that Jefferson County had the state’s highest jobless rate of 12.1% in June. Rankin County, at 3.3%, had the lowest unemployment rate in the Magnolia State during the month.
