At 3.1%, Tallahatchie County tied for the sixth-lowest rate of unemployment in the Magnolia State during May, according to a Mississippi Department of Employment Security monthly report.
The latest Labor Market Data Report, released Tuesday, showed 161 members of the county’s 5,245-person labor force were unemployed, and 5,084 employed, in May. The labor force consists of everyone age 16 and older who has a job or is actively looking.
In April, 146 of 5,251 Tallahatchie labor force members were jobless and unemployment stood at 2.8%.

The county’s May jobless rate was six-tenths of 1% lower than the 3.7% figure in May 2025, when MDES said 174 of 4,650 available laborers did not find work.

Issaquena (8.8%) and Rankin (2.5%) had the state’s highest and lowest rates of unemployment, respectively.
Among area counties, Coahoma and Leflore had the fourth- and sixth-highest jobless rates, respectively. Lafayette’s was third-lowest.
