SUMNER — If you wish to donate to the annual Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox project, Sumner First Baptist Church is making the process easier and safer this year.
The church, located at 400 Cassidy St., is an official shoebox drop-off location in Tallahatchie County.
“To enable social distancing, it is not necessary for you to leave your vehicle,” said local drop-off leader Lydia Dunavent. “Someone will be waiting to take boxes as you arrive.”
Operation Christmas Child has been collecting and delivering shoebox gifts — filled with assorted school supplies, hygiene items and toys — to children worldwide for more than two decades.
During National Collection Week, Nov. 16-23, over 4,000 shoebox drop-off locations across the country will be open.
Hours of operation for the Sumner site are as follows:
» Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 16-17: 5 -7 p.m.
» Wednesday, Nov. 18: 1-3 p.m.
» Thursday and Friday, Nov. 19-20: 5-7 p.m.
» Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21-22: 1-3 p.m.
» Monday, Nov. 23 — the last drop-off day — 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
