November unemployment in Tallahatchie County rose to 3.9%, a hike of four-tenths of 1% from October’s revised figure of 3.5%, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security has announced.
The MDES, which compiles the state’s employment data, noted that 170 members of the county’s 4,390-person labor force were unemployed in November, while 4,220 were working. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.
In October, 160 of 4,490 labor force members were jobless while 4,330 were employed.
Despite the monthly increase, the county’s November jobless rate remained two-tenths of a percent lower than the 4.1% figure recorded in November 2021, when 190 of 4,590 available laborers age 16 and older did not find work while 4,400 did.
The Mississippi unemployment rate stood at 3.7% in November, higher by three-tenths of 1% than October’s 3.4%. The state’s November jobless rate is one-tenth of 1% higher than the 3.6% figure of November 2021.
Nationally, the unemployment rate stood pat at 3.4% from October to November. The rate is a marked improvement over the 3.9% jobless rate recorded in Nov-ember 2021.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that unemployment rates were higher in November in 12 states, lower in 3 states and the District of Columbia, and stable in 35.
Nonfarm payroll employment increased in eight states and was basically unchanged in 42 states and the District of Columbia.

Jefferson County had Mississippi’s highest county jobless rate in November at 11.4%, while Lafayette’s 2.6% was the lowest.
For the month of November, 31 counties in Mississippi posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 3.7% while 51 posted rates that were higher.
