Connecting People. Improving Health.
Who helps a community become healthier?
Healthy communities grow when people and organizations come together to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and work toward common goals. That is exactly what the Tallahatchie County Community Consortium has been doing across Tallahatchie County.
Supported by Tougaloo College Delta Health Partners, the Consortium brings together health care providers, community organizations, educators, local leaders, and residents to share resources, discuss community health priorities, and strengthen partnerships.
As chairperson of the Tallahatchie County Community Consortium, one of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing organizations come together around a shared commitment to improving community health. That same spirit of collaboration is reflected in Charleston Thrives.
Dr. Catherine Moring, executive director of the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, and Shirley Williams of Tougaloo College Delta Health Partners, both serve on the Charleston Thrives Health & Well-Being Working Group, helping connect organizations around a shared purpose.
On Aug. 25, the Consortium will meet at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center for its quarterly gathering. Dr. Moring will lead a discussion on maternal and child health, National Breastfeeding Month, and other health topics affecting local families.
Why does that matter?
Progress begins with people learning from one another.
Every meeting creates an opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and connect residents with trusted resources. Those connections help build healthier families and a stronger community.
That is why this is a Charleston Thrives progress story.
The Health & Well-Being Working Group believes healthier communities are built through collaboration. The Consortium demonstrates what is possible when organizations continue learning, working, and making progress together.
Community members are invited to attend the Tallahatchie County Community Consortium Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 1-2 p.m. at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, 141 Dr. T.T. Lewis Circle in Charleston.
If you see progress happening across Charleston, we hope you will share it with me and with each other.
