Teachers Learning Together for Charleston’s Children
How can teachers learning together help an entire community thrive?
One of the ideas behind Charleston Thrives is simple: when people come together around a shared purpose, they can accomplish more together than they can alone.
Across Charleston, residents, educators, organizations and community leaders are working side by side to identify priorities, take action and create progress that benefits the entire community.
One priority identified by the Charleston Thrives Education Working Group was strengthening early learning by creating more opportunities for educators to learn from one another. Tallahatchie Early Learning Alliance (TELA) is a collaborative effort supported by SonEdna Foundation and represented within the Education Working Group that recently helped bring that priority to life.
Teachers, teacher assistants, principals and early learning leaders from Charleston Elementary School, Eva Covington Head Start, and West Tallahatchie Head Start spent two days learning side by side. Together they explored literacy instruction, storytelling, classroom strategies, the Mississippi Beginnings Curriculum and shared successful practices they can take back to their classrooms.
Because stronger educators create stronger learning experiences for children.
When teachers across schools and early learning programs learn together, children benefit from more consistent, engaging, and high-quality learning experiences that help prepare them for success in school and beyond.
That is why this is a Charleston Thrives progress story. A community identified a shared priority. Partners came together. Action followed. And Charleston’s youngest learners stand to benefit. If you see progress happening across Charleston, we hope you will share it with me and with each other.
