What tells you a community that it is moving forward?
Sometimes progress is measured in milestones.
Other times, you can see it right outside your front door.
Across Charleston, tree limbs damaged during Winter Storm Fern continue to be removed from power lines, overgrown rights-of-way are being maintained, and neglected properties are being cleaned up. Each improvement is helping restore the appearance, safety, and pride of the community.
These efforts represent months of recovery and ongoing work by city leaders, utility partners, contractors, and residents committed to moving Charleston forward. While much of this work happens quietly, its impact is visible every day.
Why does that matter? Because the way a community cares for its shared spaces influences how people feel about the place they call home.
A cleaner street encourages pride. A cleared sidewalk invites a walk. A restored property reminds neighbors that progress is possible. Small improvements, repeated over time, create stronger neighborhoods and a stronger community.
That is why this is a Charleston Thrives progress story.
The Government & Civic Engagement Working Group recognizes that thriving communities are built through consistent care, shared responsibility, and visible progress. Every tree trimmed, every property improved, and every block that becomes a little more welcoming helps strengthen Charleston’s future. That is what Making Progress Together looks like.
