Local COVID-19 death toll now stands at 59

The life of another Tallahatchie County resident has been taken by COVID-19, increasing the local pandemic-related death toll to 59, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Tallahatchie County residents Tandy Whitten, left, and Leah Hollingsworth on Monday were named teachers of the year in the Grenada School District. Whitten, who teaches eighth-grade math, received the honor at Grenada Middle School. Hollingsworth, who teaches Biology I, was named top educator for 2022-23 at Grenada High School. CHS commencement exercises will get underway at 6 p.m. Friday, May 24, in the Morgan Freeman Auditorium on the Charleston campus.
