Unemployment in Tallahatchie County inched upward in September to 5.5%, an increase of one-tenth of a percent from the August rate of 5.4%.
The Mississippi Department of Employment Security’s monthly report, released Tuesday, showed that 290 members of the county’s 5,350-person labor force were unemployed in September.
In August, 290 of 5,380 labor force folk were jobless.
The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.
The September rate was 1.3% higher than the 4.2% figure of September 2018, when 230 of 5,340 labor force members were unemployed.

Jefferson County recorded Mississippi’s highest September jobless rate of 15.7 percent. Rankin’s 4.1 percent was best in the Magnolia State.
