SUMNER — The local driver of a pickup is charged with aggravated death in connection with a Friday night (Dec. 6) crash that killed a Coahoma County man.
James E. Wright, 56, of 2760 Highway 32 W., Webb, was arrested by a state trooper at the scene of the accident on U.S. Highway 49 East and later booked into the Tallahatchie County Jail in Charleston, according to documents on file there.
Wright was released Monday afternoon (Dec. 9) after posting a bond of $50,000.
James L. Davis, 51, of Clarksdale died when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a 2004 Ford F-150 driven by Wright, noted Sgt. Marvin Baird, public affairs officer for the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Troop E in Batesville.
Baird said the accident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. Dec. 6 when the pickup was attempting to cross the highway in the area of Gray Street.
The trooper said the pickup collided with the southbound 2016 Harley Davidson driven by Mr. Davis, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baird added that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
