Monday, Oct. 7, is the voter registration deadline for the Nov. 5 general election.
Applicants who register in person at the circuit clerk’s office must do so by 5 p.m. on Oct. 7, noted Tallahatchie County Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal.
Applicants who mail registration applications must postmark them by Oct. 7.
Neal said her offices in Charleston and Sumner will be open on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. until noon, to accommodate anyone who wishes to register to vote.
A downloadable voter registration application is accessible at Y’all Vote, www.yallvote.sos.ms.gov, the secretary of state’s online voter information center. The application should be delivered to the circuit clerk in the county of residence.
An individual is eligible to register to vote if he or she is at least 18 years old, or will be 18 years old by Nov. 5; is a Mississippi resident; has not been convicted in a Mississippi court of a disenfranchising crime; and has not been adjudicated as mentally incompetent.
The absentee voting period for the general election opened Sept. 23, Neal said. Absentee voters can cast their ballots in the circuit clerk’s office from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
