WEBB — Carlos Thompson, 39, has been named acting police chief for Webb, Mayor Tracy Mims said Saturday.
A native of western Tallahatchie County, Thompson was a unanimous hire by the Webb Board of Aldermen, the mayor said.
Thompson is a graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy, where he received a sharpshooter award and was certified in Taser.
After serving four years as a correctional officer, Thompson has worked in law enforcement for about two years.
Mims lauded Thompson, saying, “Acting Chief Thompson has a creative style of management and is focused on strengthening our police department.”
He is the son of Renee Williams of Sumner and Tommie Meeks of Clarksdale.
Thompson replaces former Webb Police Chief Marvin Pryor, who left the town after he “took on another job closer to his home,” the mayor explained.
