Only three contest players picked Mississippi State to top LSU on Saturday and Berverly Drane was not one of them, but her 7-1 record was enough to help her clinch the $30 cash prize during Week 2 of The Sun-Sentinel’s 2020 Football Fever Contest.
The Bulldogs’ 44-34 win over the defending national champion Tigers tripped up nearly all contestants.
Drane won on the strength of her tiebreaker guess, which was off by just 2 points. She picked Alabama to beat Missouri 38-17, and the actual score was 38-19.
Other 7-1 contestants, in order of their tiebreaker finish, were Kenny Drane, L.Q. Weston, Walker Sturdivant, Bobby Reed, Sykes Sturdivant and Martha Ann Clark.
Placing at 6-2 were Week 1 winner Heather Kent, Shay Ely, Ryan Kent, Mike Sturdivant III, Neal Creasy, Ray C. Plez, Gary Dyksterhouse, Kathy Estes, Reed Madden, James Lake, Alma Reed and Gyrone Kenniel.
Standing at 5-3 were Raymond Hardy, Rickey A. Williamson, Billy Ray, Sue Jennings, Andrew Tenner, Beronica Jones, Harvey Smith, Beth Burnham, Roberta Redd, Larry Smith and Lacey Booth Clark.
Breaking even at 4-4 were Dianne Starnes, Jimmie Johnson, Gregg Starnes, John Clark, Marie Taylor, Bubba Burnham, Henry Collie, Ginger Burnham, Willie Wilkins and Crump Britt.
Patrick Taylor’s 3-5 entry form bore the “Worst Picks of the Week.”
