A storm packing high winds damaged roofs and blew down numerous trees and limbs, knocking out electrical service to hundreds of local residents primarily in the northeastern section of Tallahatchie County on Saturday night, Aug. 22.
Several structures in Charleston were impacted, including one home on North Franklin Street that sustained roof and outbuilding damage when a huge oak tree was uprooted.
Photos sent by Ashley Williams of the Tallahatchie County Emergency Management Agency show that sections of the metal roof atop the Tallahatchie County Health Department building in Charleston were peeled back from the decking and, in some cases, blown off the structure.
Williams added that the agency received numerous other reports of structural damage in the county.
There were no known injuries.
Panola, Quitman and Tallahatchie counties were all under a severe thunderstorm warning at the time.
