Charleston Library continues to provide needed resources.
One of those often forgotten gems in Charleston is the Tallahatchie County Library System branch located on Walnut Street. This small-town library is actually big on technology improvements and new additions to its literacy collection. Over the past five years, the Charleston location has updated its technology systems, added numerous books to its collection, and completed many cosmetic improvements.
Technology resources in the library have been crucial for residents of the community. Computers, printers, fax machines and laminators are just a few of the many technology devices that they provide to students, teachers and others at a minimal cost. The Charleston Library also provides a meeting room with audiovisual equipment for group meetings and presentations.
The technology equipment is not the only thing that has improved within these four walls. Books for readers, both young and older, are continuously added to the shelves. Many of the funds used to add books to the collection were from federal grants and foundational grants. These funds were used to add nonfiction adult books, juvenile fiction and nonfiction titles, and children’s books to the current library collection. Library Director Angela Cossar orders new books based upon current literary releases and requests from community members.
Along with technology updates and numerous new titles for the collection, the Charleston Library also has a craft room with 3D printers and other supplies. Large-scale printers and laminators allow patrons the ability to print banners and signs. A new Cricut machine provides library staff the opportunity to print designs on T-shirts.
The exciting thing is that all of these resources are located here in our town, and the only item that is needed to take advantage of so many of them is a library card. The Charleston branch is open from 9 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday, and from 9 to 3 on Fridays.
Take a minute to stop by the local library today to see the new improvements and new additions to this community gem.
