Benjamin Sykes Sturdivant of Glendora has filed qualifying papers to seek re-election to the office of commissioner of the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board.

Sturdivant filed as a Democrat, according to documents on file Tuesday at the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston.

Officials sworn in at start of new four-year term

New and returning Tallahatchie County elected officials recited their oaths of office Thursday morning, Jan. 2, during a ceremony in the courtroom of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston.

Circuit Judge Jimmy McClure administered the oaths to all but one of the officials as family members and other well-wishers looked on.

Local street, highway improvements nice

The Charleston Court Square was closed to vehicle traffic Tuesday while work crews painted yellow and white stripes on the newly asphalted street surface.

The striping is one of the final touches added to a three-month, $1.47 million state project that led to the milling and overlay of some 3 miles of 32.
