Choctaws fall, but Lady Chocs moving on

The West Tallahatchie High School Choctaws ended an historic season on a sour note today, falling to the Okolona Chieftains 73-67.

The loss came in the boys' semifinals round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association's Class 2A State Basketball Tournament at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

West Tally teams in Final Four

Congratulations to the West Tallahatchie High School girls' and boys' basketball teams, both of whom posted impressive victories today in the state basketball tournament in Jackson.

The Lady Choctaws defeated Lake 59-44 while the Choctaws nearly doubled up on Leake County, 66-39.

Fire can't destroy memories

I was at work early Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, when the familiar multi-tone alert went out over the airwaves, signifying to Charleston firefighters that their services were needed.

Following the tone, my tabletop scanner broadcast the message from the dispatcher that there was a house fire at 702 E. Chestnut St.

Thomas chooses Co-Lin

On National Signing Day Feb. 4, Charleston High School defensive back Kelvin Thomas signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves. As a senior at CHS, Thomas registered five tackles and two sacks for the Tigers.
