I hope all you school students from pre-K on up are enjoying your spring break. Also, the faculty.
Treasure and Cody McLendon are the proud parents of a precious baby girl. Sweet little Farron Raynes arrived at 8:24 p.m. Monday, March 4. She is beautiful with a head full of hair. I know her big brother, Layne Hart, is a proud big brother.
Bobby Joe McClanahan got his prosthetics! The man told him when he came back for his next appointment, he didn’t want to see him in that wheelchair. So, he tries standing and walking. Kenny helped him make some parallel bars to practice walking. Bobby Joe’s sister, Lila Myrick, says she’s so proud of him. He is so determined to walk again. (He will, Lila. With the strong willpower that he has, it won’t be long either.)
Martha Box is still tied down with her foot up in the air and still no weight bearing until April 3. Martha said she is piddling about the house via wheelchair, standing on her one foot to do minor things. She managed to get out to Grenada with sister Joyce's help. She rode in her wheelchair throughout Walmart, because all of their rides were tied up or dead. Martha said Joyce and brother Jesse had a great lunch with her. She said it wore her out, but she loved it.
“It is very hard to sit down while someone else does my job,” said Martha. “Like granddaughter Marissa draining and repairing the water heater, Joyce throwing out all the old food from the fridge, etc., all without my help. I guess I now have to put them in for a raise.” Martha, sit back, relax and enjoy it! They love you and wanna help you.
Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Dana Huffman, came down from Tennessee for a visit with her Friday. Sheryn said, of course, they talked just a little bit. They went up to Enid, where they ate lunch and toured the park. She always enjoys the kiddos coming.
With the kids are out of school for spring break, they are waiting on the swimming pool to be open, says Diane Dukes. Roseann and Jake Rose, John Luke and Logan went to Tupelo to the flea market Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Jimmy Russell and Destiny Dukes and sons, Connor and Braxton, went to the flea market Sunday morning.
Haven Rose Dukes and Joanna Pullen went to the park Saturday afternoon with their parents, Sam and Anna Pullen, and Holly Dukes. Waylon missed out on all the fun! He had work to do.
Saturday was such a fun day with my daughter Donna, granddaughter Miranda and Summer Procella of Covington, Georgia. We didn’t leave the house but enjoyed being with each other. I made Miranda her favorite, cornflake candy, and I also made a pineapple upside down cake for us to snack on.
Ginger Harrison says they are all glad Josh is home for spring break! Don’t work him too hard, Phil.
Happy birthday to Wendy Dempsey on the 11th; to twins Addison and Abbigail Newsome on the 12th; to Brian Bowman, Eddie Simmons and JR Dukes, who share a birthday on the 13th; to Billy Edwards on the 16th; and to Jackie Nail on the 17th. I hope you all have a blessed birthday.
Recipe for the week: The Old Fashioned Custard Pie
Ingredients:
1 unbaked pie shell (I use deep dish)
3 large eggs
½ cup of sugar
½ teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of nutmeg
2-2/3 cups of milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
How to prepare: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Beat your eggs slightly, then add sugar, salt, nutmeg and milk. Beat well and pour into the unbaked pie shell. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. Sprinkle the top of pie with fresh ground nutmeg and serve.
Thought for the day: Beauty is not in the face. Beauty is a light in your heart.
