JR Dukes and friend, Ashlee Julian, visited JR’s grandmother, Diane Dukes, Thursday. Ashlee starts back to Ole Miss soon. This will be her last year in nursing studies and she will receive her bachelor’s degree. Ashlee is not only pretty, she is also smart and out-fishes JR on a good day!
Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Dana Huffman, son-in-law Lee and grandson Fischer came for the day. They had a good visit and went to Catfish Hut for lunch. Fischer is getting ready to go to Arkansas State the middle of the month. He has been there all summer at basketball training camp and will be going back for classes.
Martha Box made it up the steps into Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday morning. She said it was so good to walk in with Bro. Rickey Harris. “I have missed worshipping with our friends and neighbors these past seven months, and what a worship it was, from singing spirit-filled Standing on Holy Ground, to Pastor Rickey’s message! Wow, the presence of our Lord was with us all throughout!” noted Martha.
Martha said she visited the Ole Country Store for a couple of great meals last week and enjoyed good country cooking, after which she did not have to clean up! Sister Joyce and Martha gave into their want-to’s and went to Catfish Hut at Enid Sunday. She said it was so good she saved half and brought it home for lunch the next day.
“Hopefully, I am up to getting back to my Superwoman status,” said Martha. “My great-nephews, Wyatt and Ryder, did a wonderful job helping me clean and organize the porch. Those two are real men in the making!”
Anna Pullen took Joanna and Andy Pullen to the Water Valley Watermelon Carnival Saturday. Anna’s sister, Amber Jameson, and her two sons also went. They all had a good time eating at the Mexican restaurant. Anna said they had a lot of nice things over there.
David and your writer visited grandson Waylon Dukes and children, Haven Rose and Waylon Jr., Sunday afternoon. Haven Rose said, “Grandmother, give me your phone so I can look at my pictures.” I told her there were a lot of pictures on there including pictures of her little brother. She said, “Oh, I just wanna look at mine.” When I got home, I opened my phone and there was a picture of her on my notification page. That little bugger had put her picture on there so that when I opened up my phone, I would see her picture. She is 5 years old! They are smart with phones, iPads and TV. She and her cousin, Jo Pullen, go to school Thursday for meet the teacher day and then go back to school Friday for half a day. Where has the summer gone?
Ginger Harrison says not much is going on right now. She said son Jake filled in as music leader at Pine Grove this week and sang a special. It was very good. Ginger sent me a video of Jake singing and he can sing!
Diane Dukes went to Blooming Hills Farm. They had another fall opening and Diane did some Christmas shopping. I’ve been Christmas shopping since July. My closet can tell.
Bradley Holliday and Robert Selobdt of Grenada spent the night with John Luke Rose and helped him celebrate his 12th birthday by eating at No Way Jose and attending a movie afterward.
Belated happy birthday to Kaymesha (BooBoo) Hervey July 31; to Jeff Chambers the 3rd of August; and to son Logan Deck and Lee Ann Howe on the 6th.

Recipe for the week: Eagle Brand Pound Cake
1 pound of butter
2 cups of sugar
Six eggs
3 cups of all-purpose flour
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla and flour and mix thoroughly. Add sweetened condensed milk and combine with batter. Bake in a 300° oven for one-and-a-half hours or until done.
I made this cake for Sunday dinner, and I also added a teaspoon of almond flavoring
