TUTWILER — The girlfriend of a local man has been charged in his Jan. 7 stabbing death, the first homicide of 2024 to be reported in Tallahatchie County,.
Tutwiler Police Chief Carlos Thompson on Tuesday identified the victim as Deonta Small, 21, of 301 Central St., Tutwiler.
The chief said Small was stabbed in the neck with a small knife, “a little bit bigger than a pocket knife,” during a “domestic violence situation” that occurred in the front yard of that Central Street address at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Small was transported to Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale, where he was pronounced dead at 4:27 a.m., Thompson noted.
Jasmine Davis, 26, of Clarksdale, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death, he added.
Thompson said that Davis, whom he identified as Small’s girlfriend, had been living in the house with Small, his mother and his stepfather for a few months.
On Sunday morning, “a physical altercation broke out between the two outside the house,” the chief explained, adding that it is unclear what the two were arguing about.
The case remains under investigation, Thompson said.
