MARKS — A jury here returned guilty verdicts last week in connection with the 2019 slayings of a Tallahatchie County man and his Quitman County girlfriend, according to Darkhorse Press.
Reporting for the online news service, Therese Apel said Friday night that Keith “K2” Coleman Jr. and Jayme Lynn Tubbs of Quitman County were convicted on two counts each of murder and two counts each of desecration of a human corpse in the deaths of Will Polk and April Jones, both of whom were shot and dismembered.
At the close of a four-day circuit court trial at the Quitman County Courthouse, the jury deliberated about 45 minutes before returning the guilty verdicts.
Darkhorse Press reported that the presiding judge ordered two consecutive life sentences for Coleman and Tubbs in the two murders and concurrent three-year sentences for the desecrations, to run concurrent to the murder sentences.
Polk, 23, who lived with his family on Melton Road in the Brazil community of northwestern Tallahatchie County, went missing on Oct. 10, 2019.
According to reports, that was the day he went to Crowder to see Jones, 36, whom he had been dating. The two were last seen together publicly on that date.
The full account of what transpired in the ensuing months and over the more than three years since the disappearances reads much like the script for a dark Hollywood murder mystery or a tragic real-life documentary.

On Aug. 27, 2022, family and friends of Polk gathered on the grounds of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston to pray for justice in the upcoming trials of those accused in his death.
The story is not over, as a third suspect charged in the case awaits a trial date which reportedly has not been set, and still more face possible arrest.
