Three more Tallahatchians beat the Feb. 1 qualifying deadline to add their names to the list of candidates for county election commissioner, according to information on file last week at the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston.
Yolanda D. Cotton, 57, of 168 S. Sabine St., Charleston, qualified for reelection as District 3 election commissioner. She is unopposed.
Damon Stroud, 57, of 31515 Mississippi Highway 32, Charleston, qualified to seek the position of District 1 election commissioner.
Margaret McIntyre Simmons, 59, of 173 Curtis Dr., Charleston, qualified for reelection as District 1 election commissioner and will face a challenge from Stroud.
Charles Huddleston, 71, of Tutwiler, qualified last month to seek reelection as District 5 election commissioner. He is unopposed for the office.
Due to legislative action staggering the terms, only local election commission seats in districts 1, 3 and 5 are up for grabs this year. Those races will appear on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
The Tallahatchie County Election Commission features one representative from each of the county's five supervisor districts.
