SUMNER — The annual Sumner Christmas Eve fireworks show will be held on Sunday, Dec. 24, starting at 7 p.m.
Don't worry; the show will be over long before Santa Claus and his reindeer come flying through this part of the country.
The fireworks will be launched from the Cassidy Bayou bridge in the heart of town, and the display can best be viewed from the streets along the bayou north of the bridge.
The bridge will be closed to traffic starting at 6:45 p.m. Because regulations require that the public be kept a safe distance from the bridge during the show, boundaries will be established on both sides of the span, said Sumner Town Clerk Toni Clark.
The public is asked to watch for the boundary markers and to remain outside of the marked area, Clark added.
The event, funded entirely through private donations, is an annual project of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department.
As usual, the professional company, Pyro Shows, is in charge of orchestrating and executing the fireworks show.
Some local residents also use the occasion to light and send heavenward dozens of Chinese lanterns, adding to the spectacle on Cassidy Bayou.
