A recent administrative adjustment has added another victim to the total count of Tallahatchie County deaths attributed to COVID-19, the Mississippi State Department of Health revealed Tuesday afternoon.
According to information from the MSDH Office of Epidemiology, "Between Aug. 14 and Aug. 22, a COVID-19 death that was previously reported in another county was added to the Tallahatchie County total after additional information indicated the individual was a resident of Tallahatchie."
While no COVID-19 deaths were reported in Tallahatchie County in the more than five months from Feb. 17 until July 28, three have been announced by MSDH in the one-and-a-half months since. The 61st was reported on July 29 and the 62nd on Aug. 15.
According to figures released Aug. 22, there have been 3,532 total positive cases of COVID-19 in Tallahatchie.
Statewide, based on a once-weekly MSDH report issued Tuesday, 8,144 new positive cases of COVID-19 were logged in Mississippi from Aug. 23-29, resulting in 28 deaths.
Overall, MSDH noted, there have been 913,049 positive cases and 12,794 deaths in the Magnolia State since the pandemic began.
The first positive case of COVID-19 in Tallahatchie County was reported by MSDH on March 23, 2020. The first local death was announced on April 17, 2020.
