Tallahatchie County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.2% in December to 3.6% in January, according to a report from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security reported this week.
MDES statistics show that in January, 4,760 people were employed, and 180 unemployed, among a labor force totaling 4,940 in Tallahatchie County. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking.
In December, 4,310 people were employed, and 140 unemployed, among a civilian labor force of 4,460 in the county.
Among area counties in January, the Coahoma County jobless rate stood at 5.0%; Grenada, 3.6%, Lafayette 2.6%, Leflore, 5.5%; Panola, 4.4%; Quitman, 5.3%; Sunflower, 5.3%; and Yalobusha, 3.7%.
