Both party ballots feature races for president, U.S. Senate and U.S. House in the 2nd Congressional District.
Democratic ballots also will feature the name of Benjamin Sykes Sturdivant of Glendora, who is unopposed for reelection as Tallahatchie County’s commissioner on the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board, where he has served for 30 years.
The Charleston and Sumner offices of Tallahatchie County Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal will be open a half-day Saturday, March 9, the deadline of in-person absentee voting. All mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, March 12, and received by March 19.
Democratic ballots will feature incumbent President Joseph R. Biden Jr., hopeful Ty Pinkins for U.S. Senate, and incumbent 2nd District Congressman Bennie G. Thompson.
Republican ballots will bear the names of Ron DeSantis, Nikki R. Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Donald J. Trump for president.
DeSantis and Ramaswamy publicly withdrew from the race weeks ago, and Haley announced just Wednesday that she was suspending her campaign. However, the Mississippi secretary of state's office explained that under state law, a candidate who has qualified to appear on the presidential preference primary ballot must have submitted an affidavit to withdraw, which is required to be removed from the ballot. That did not happen for these three before the deadline.
In the Republican race for U.S. Senate, longtime incumbent Roger F. Wicker is being opposed by Ghannon Burton and Dan Eubanks.
Vying for the opportunity to advance to face Thompson in November are 2nd Congressional District Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, Ron Eller, Andrew Scott Smith and Taylor Turcotte.
Both the Democratic and Republican sample ballots for Tuesday's primary in Tallahatchie County are attached.
