A pair of incumbent officeholders are seeking reelection in Tallahatchie County, according to qualifying statements of intent on file at the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston.
Benjamin Sykes Sturdivant, 69, of 2249 Snow Brake Road, Glendora, filed as a Dem-ocrat looking to retain his seat as Tallahatchie County’s commissioner on the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board, where he has served for 30 years. The race will appear on the March 12 primary election ballot.
Charles Huddleston, 70, of 246 Huddleston Dr., Tutwiler, filed qualifying papers as a Democrat seeking reelection to his position as District 5 election commissioner. The race will appear on ballots in that district during the Nov. 5 general election.
According to the secretary of state's office, the qualifying deadline for all candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Commission is Friday, Jan. 12, at 5 p.m.
The qualifying deadline for the Presidential Preference Primary is Monday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m.
Non-partisan judicial offices and election commissioners are required to qualify by Thursday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m.
