Cedar Grove to honor pastor
Cedar Grove M.B. Church in Sallis will hold a pastor appreciation program at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7.
The program will celebrate Pastor Osie Grays’ 33 years of leadership. The public is invited.
North Union sets homecoming service
North Union Baptist Church will hold homecoming services at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 7.
Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and join the church for worship and lunch. An offering will be collected for the upkeep of North Union Cemetery.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the town of Kosciusko is gearing up for a special celebration honoring our namesake: Tadeusz Kościuszko. Tadeusz is known as the "Hero of Two Worlds." He was a brilliant engineer whose forts and strategies helped win the Revolutionary War.
The Kosciusko Foundation for Excellence in Education is sponsoring two major competitions open to any students (ages 7-18) who live in Attala County. There is a writing contest and an art competition. Cash prizes are available in every age group.

Kosciusko officials discussed public use of the fire department meeting room, approved payments for ongoing city work and reviewed plans to move a historic rail car during a May 19 public hearing and board meeting.
Marquita Thurman addressed city officials about a canceled reservation for the Kosciusko Fire Department meeting room, saying the city needs a formal written policy for public use of the space.

Joseph Cannon, 34, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Olive Branch, MS.
Funeral services were 10:00 am Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel in Kosciusko. Visitation was on Saturday from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Culpepper Funeral Home. Burial followed at McClain Cemetery in Sallis.
Joe is survived by his wife Maranda Cannon, daughters Allyson and Gracelynn Cannon, son Gabriel Cannon, mother Brenda Butler, father Andrew Cannon (Beatrice), brother Zachery Trahan, and step-brothers Cheyenne Terry and Shawn Roberts.

Erubiel Garcia, 24, passed away in Winston County, MS.
Funeral services were Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Culpepper Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Visitation was held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Parkway Cemetery.
Eubriel is survived by his wife, Alex Wilder Garcia, his children Santiago Erubiel Garcia, Giovani Garcia, Melany Garcia, and Eliana Garcia, parents, Alfonso and Narcisa Garcia, brothers Mani, Junior, and Mando, and sisters Eli and Chaly.
He was employed as a construction contractor.

Basically only one towering issue remained for Attala County supervisors in the process of clearing away the site of the old jail.
While road issues came up for discussion and an update came on post-ice storm relief, the county board almost got settled Monday, May 18, in clearing away the old jail.
The board approved payment to Cain, Inc. for the demolition work, which seemed to settle issues at the old jail.

This year’s fair has been moved up to June. See who’s slated to speak, and who’s not, at Mississippi’s Giant House Party.
Mississippi’s Giant House Party has been moved up this year to accommodate earlier school start dates and other summer activities that have begun causing conflicts.
The 2026 version of the Neshoba County Fair will get under way June 19 and run through June 26. The annual event features concerts, horseracing, fair rides, food, produce displays, porch sitting and of course, political speaking at Founders Square.
