Charleston falls to Ripley in first game of season

In the season opener for both teams Thursday night, the Class 2A Charleston High School Tigers dropped a 20-16 decision to the Class 4A Tigers of Ripley High School at Tiger Stadium in Charleston.

Tallahatchie jobless rate jumps by 1%

Unemployment in Tallahatchie County rose from 3.4% in May to 4.4% in June, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
In June, 200 Tallahatchians were unemployed, and 4,350 employed, from a labor force totaling 4,550. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.

Runoffs required to settle four Tallahatchie County races

Oakland native inducted into Sports Hall of Fame

Oakland native Carol Ross was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Jackson over the last weekend of July. Ross was one among a class of eight to be named to the 2023 class of inductees into the prestigious Hall of Fame.
