Robert St. John’s newest restaurant, The Downtowner, is now serving on the Coast. He said two years ago his team finally pulled the trigger and committed to opening a community cafe in the old pharmacy spot in Gulfport.
The day before we opened The Downtowner in Gulfport, the leadership team and I sat around a table and just talked. Sports. The weather. Who has the best shrimp po-boy on the coast.
That has never happened to me before.

CLARKSDALE — Funeral services for Bill Moore, age 90, formerly of Tutwiler, were 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Clarksdale Baptist Church with interment following in Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
He was a member of the Air Force ROTC and worked for a civil engineering firm until he joined the United States Air Force.
He is survived by a son, William Harold Moore of Oxford; two granddaughters.

GRENADA — Howard Enos Blount, age 89, of Grenada, passed away Sunday, June 14, at his home. He was born June 27, 1936, in Charleston, to Howard Noah Blount and Hazel Mae Burk Blount.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 17, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with his nephew, Bro. Cayman Blount officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Paynes.

SUMNER — John William (Will) Morrow passed away Tuesday, June 16, at his home between Webb and Parchman after a battle with cancer. He was born in Clarksdale on July 11, 1956.
A gathering of friends and family to reflect on and celebrate Will’s life will be at the Sumner-Bailey Garden in Sumner on Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Bayou Bend Country Club in Sumner from 2-4 p.m. If weather does not permit, both events will be at the Bayou Bend Country Club. The Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees approved the donation of Greenwood Leflore Hospital to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The transaction is expected to be complete by Aug. 1.
Greenwood Leflore Hospital has cleared one major hurdle in completing a transfer of its ownership to another operator.

WEBB — As part of the West Tallahatchie Community Schools Initiative, West Tallahatchie High School boys basketball head coach Corey Grayson organized and led a three-day Youth Basketball Camp that was held from 9-11 a.m. each day at the school.
The camp was a tremendous success, averaging 32 participants ranging in age from 6 to 14 years old.
Throughout the camp, students engaged in skill-building activities and friendly competition while learning fundamental basketball techniques, with a special emphasis on dribbling and ball-handling drills.
