On January 13th, 2026 at approximately 4:30 PM, Sgt Crystal Martin was dispatched to Family Dollar in reference of Theft. Upon arrival, She made contact with a . Ms. Canady stated someone used her EBT card without permission on January 12 at approximately 4:07 pm. Martin spoke with the Family Dollar manager who reviewed the footage.

The Reed Elementary Sneaker Ball will be held April 10, 2026
Pre-K through 2nd grade will be partying from 5:30-7:00 pm and 3rd through 5th grade Intermissionw ill be from 7-7:30 pm. Admission is free. Reed students can have up to three guests with $5 each Ages 0 and up. Cash only at the door. Come enjoy a night of music, dancing, fun and friends. Dress code is dresses, suits and sneakers.

The Dumas Founders Day will be an activity packed family-Friendly event Saturday, April 25 on Dumas Main Street. This is the 3rd year for the Dumas to celebrate its culture, history and community beginning in 2024. The Dumas Founder's Day committee has big plans for the third annual Founder's Day. DJ Dog Gone Crazy Shannon Coger will be MC for the event. The festival will open Saturday at 10 and will close at 9 pm.

Arkansas City, AR — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Put the Phone Away or Pay campaign is reminding drivers of the deadly dangers and legal consequences — including fines — of texting and other forms of messaging behind the wheel. From April 9-13, 2026, law enforcement nationwide will work together to enforce laws prohibiting distracted driving behind the wheel. These efforts come during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

If you work in any part of the agriculture industry, particularly on the farm side, you are probably aware of the negative changes taking place in Arkansas. If not, here is a synopsis: Arkansas led the nation in 2025 in the number of Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies, with thirty-three, according to numerous news organizations. There have also been more than one hundred farm auctions in Arkansas. Of course, there is no telling how many farms are teetering on the edge, have laid off staff, or have had to take other drastic measures to keep operating.

MOZZARELLA BASIL CHICKEN BREASTS
4 boneless chicken breasts
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup diced fresh tomato
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 Tbls chopped fresh basil
1 Tbls olive oil
Season chicken with salt and pepper. Pound until thin. Mix tomatoes, cheese and basil. Divide and spread over chicken breasts. Fold over and secure with toothpick. Saute in oil for 1 minute on each side. Transfer to baking dish, toothpick side down and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the U.S. Marshal Service that occurred Monday morning at a residence on Mill Street in Indianola.
According to Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton, the deceased has been identified as Demetric Bryant, 25, of Indianola. Burton said that his body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.

, Runners take off from the Front Street starting line of the Viking Half Marathon race Saturday while braving windy, 46-degree conditions.
, Aaron Ford of Saltillo was the winner of the Viking Half Marathon Saturday.
, Frank Holiman of Carrollton won the Viking 5k race.

As Aaron Ford neared the finish line of the Viking Half Marathon Saturday morning, his focus was on encouraging other runners.
“Finish strong!” he yelled to Archer Russell, a participant in the 10K race who was just ahead.
Ford, a 43-year-old from Saltillo, finished first in the half marathon with a time of 1 hour, 27 minutes and 55 seconds. He is a physical therapist operating a clinic in Tupelo.

A fire, shown here on Friday, has expanded to over 3,000 acres in Carroll County between Coila and Vaiden.
Updated at 2 p.m. with information from the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves issued a statement Saturday morning stating that the size of the fire in Carroll County has increased to 3,000 acres and has forced the evacuations along three county roads.

Community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and individuals interested in strengthening their ability to secure funding are invited to attend a Capacity Building Through Grant Writing Workshop + Lunch scheduled for April 14 in McGehee.
The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the McGehee Municipal Building, located at 901 Holly Street. The event is designed to help nonprofit and community-based organizations improve their grant writing skills and learn strategies for identifying and securing funding opportunities.

DUMAS, Ark. — The Dumas Bobcats and Ladycats have once again proven themselves as one of the premier basketball programs in the region, earning multiple postseason honors following an impressive season on the court.
Leading the way for the Bobcats, Kentz Brown and Kemarion Jackson were both recognized as All-Conference selections, highlighting their consistency and impact throughout the season. Their leadership helped set the tone for a strong year for Dumas.
