Desha County Quorum Court met November 20, 2025, at 1 :JOPM at the Desha County Court-house.
In new business, Students from Cornerstone Christian Academy were in attendance to witness
parliamentary procedures. All Quorum Court Members and Elected Officials stood and introduced themselves.

BLACK EYED PEAS
1 pound dry black eyed peas
1 ham bone
1/4 cup chopped onion
Salt and pepper to taste
Tabasco to taste
Soak peas in enough water to cover for 30 minutes. Add water to peas to fill pot, onion, salt,
pepper, hambone and Tabasco. Bring to a boil and simmer until tender. Remove hambone and
trim off meat. Add meat back to peas and simmer for 15 minutes more. Serve with cornbread.

Young but Fearless: Dumas High Boys Basketball Team Set to Dominate
The Cats earned a hard-fought victory over Dermott in the Dumas Holiday Classic. Marcus Kilgore and Kemarion Jackson led the way with 16 points apiece, while Kentz Brown added 11 points and six rebounds. Josh Cobb controlled the floor with 10 assists, and Isaac Charles contributed five rebounds in the win.

The Dumas Public Library Patrons received the opportunity to get their picture with Santa December 19, 2025.
Children lined up to speak with Santa and have their picture taken. The received a gift and a book and a swag bag sponsored by the Reform Alliance. Save the Children in Monticello donated the books and gifts for children ages 1-12 years old.
“We are very blessed to partner with these organizations, our volunteer Santa, and our volunteer gift wrapper . Without them we would not be able to do things like this for our community. Thank you”

The Dumas Ladycats captured the Dumas Holiday Classic Championship with an impressive showing throughout the tournament. Displaying determination, teamwork, and relentless effort on both ends of the court, the Ladycats proved why they are one of the top teams in the area.
Several players stepped up with key performances, contributing on offense, defense, and the boards to secure the championship title. Their hard work and preparation were evident in every game played.
Congratulations to the Dumas Ladycats on an outstanding tournament run and a well-earned victory.

Dumas City Council discussed perimeter fencing project and vehicle purchases for airport at the November city council meeting
Mr. Steve Stevens, Airport Commission Board member, provided updates on the Federal Aviation Administration 90/10% Grant for the Install Perimeter Fencing Project and purchasing a minivan and a car to use as Airport courtesy vehicles.
Dave Air, Inc. has agreed to lease the Airport maintenance building and manage the fuel sales by contract from the City of Dumas.

DUMAS, Ark. — Community members gathered for an exciting Bingo Night that brought fun, laughter, and the heart of Dumas. The event welcomed residents for an evening filled with friendly competition, great prizes, and community spirit.
Participants enjoyed multiple rounds of bingo, with winners receiving prizes throughout the night. The event provided a safe and positive space for families, seniors, and friends to connect while enjoying a classic game loved by all generations.

The Delta Memorial Hospital staff showed their creativity with the hospital's annual door decorating contest.
The winners were the Business Office and and Health Information Management Department with the Delta Express and Community Clinic with a Christmas Story.
“If Christmas spirit were a competition… our employees won.
From creative themes to over-the-top details, our staff turned the halls into a holiday wonderland! We loved seeing the teamwork and talent behind every door,” DMH said.

The City of Dumas is opening a second round of recruitment for the Dumas Youth Council. All students in grades 9-12, as well as college students, who are interested in leadership, civic engagement, and serving in their community are encouraged to apply. There are 17 slots available.
Applications may be picked up from the City of Dumas or Councilmember Tironeka Brown and must be returned no later than January 16, 2026. For more information, please contact the City of Dumas or Councilmember Tironeka Brown.

MCGEHEE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology–McGehee (UAM-CTM) and the UAM Adult Education Center will launch the UAM Digital Literacy Program in January as part of the “3 Southern States Connected Communities Program,” a regional effort led by Digitunity and AT&T to expand computer access and digital skills training.

NAVY BEAN SOUP
1 lb navy beans
End of 1 ham
2 quarts water
1 onion, chopped
4 carrots, chopped
4 ribs celery, chopped
Bunch of parsley, chopped
3 tbls butter
1/4 cup flour
Soak beans overnight in 2 quarts of water; drain. Slowly cook beans (in water) with ham until tender. Saute vegetables in butter, add flour and stir. Remove ham and cut into pieces, return to beans. Add vegetable mixture to beans and cook for 30 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
