Bring on 2026! It is here and the CARE schedule is filling up fast, even into the summer months. (And yes, we have even started planning those summer camps with a few new camps on the schedule.) Not to get ahead of myself, let’s focus on January and into February, because those months are starting off with so many wonderful classes and events to keep you busy.

What’s your favorite food?
Raised in the South, there’s plenty to choose from!
When I was little, I remember loving fried chicken legs! Add to that red Jello. For some reason, I also really liked the Captain’s Crackers dipped in Thousand Island dressing. My other food group was french fries.
I remember Mama telling me once that when she and Daddy and I were going out for dinner to celebrate their anniversary, I got a little loud.
The waitress led us to our table set away from most of the other busy areas saying, “I thought you would like a little privacy.”

Owner Bob Crechale passed away on Christmas Eve. The family restaurant will be closing its doors for the final time on February 15.
Some places stand the test of time quietly and consistently. That’s the case with Crechale’s restaurant on Highway 80 in Jackson. When I was growing up in Jackson, it was one of many locally owned eateries that my family frequented. We ate at Primos, the Mayflower, the Elite, LeFleur’s, the Green Derby, the Rotisserie, Dennery’s, and Crechale’s. And while it wasn’t fancy, Crechele’s was always one of my favorites.

Forty-three teachers are using AI tools in a pilot program aimed at making instruction more engaging while helping students struggling in certain subjects.
A pilot program gauging the effectiveness of AI use by teachers to help develop effective lesson plans is underway in Mississippi.
The Mississippi State Board of Education was updated on the program during last week’s meeting. Members were told how the new program is being used to develop more compelling instruction time in the classroom.

The state senator said he doesn’t know of any other Democrats seriously considering a run for Secretary of State in 2027 but that could change when lawmakers return to the Capitol.
State Senator David Blount told Magnolia Tribune Tuesday morning that he will not seek the Secretary of State’s office in 2027.
Blount, who previously worked in the Secretary of State’s office, had been rumored in Capitol circles as a potential Democratic candidate for the statewide office.
