“[An] oil slick on the Cuyahoga River — polluted from decades of industrial waste — caught fire on a Sunday morning in June 1969 near the Republic Steel mill, causing about $100,000 worth of damage to two railroad bridges. Initially the fire drew little attention, either locally or nationally. The ‘69 fire was not even the first time that the river burned. Dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, the river had caught fire on several other occasions.

June is coming in hot! Mother and I just strolled uptown at 5 p.m. and it is 91 degrees. We were grateful for the few bits of shade on our trip back home. I’m really not ready for this!

Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
How awesome it was to watch the sky reflections after the rain, particularly last Friday evening. The shower just before sunset appeared indescribably beautiful! Did you notice?
I learned how to watch and appreciate the beauty of the Earth. As I have said before, it was our mother who many times expressed emotion in describing how she saw and felt about the glorious Earth. We were taught to appreciate and always look for the beauty in God’s creation. And I always do so.

Sunday afternoon was another relaxing day. Donna wanted northern beans, slaw and buttermilk cornbread for lunch so that’s what we had. David did a good job on cooking the northern beans and ham hock.
Nathan and Jessica McGee took Rowland, Mary Brett and McLendon to New York for a few days. They saw Trump Tower, Grand Central Station and several other places. They had a blast! McLendon said food was the best!

With the thermometer climbing into suffocating, unbearable to be outside weather, I have had to give up sitting on my back porch and am now sequestered inside where our air conditioning is keeping me cool and companionable (I get really mean when I get hot).
That hot, sticky, hard to breathe feeling that comes over me when I begin to sweat makes me argumentative, to say the least. My husband tries to keep me cool.

You may have had one... if your doctor needed more information to treat you.
Back in 1895, the X-ray was discovered; in early 1896, physicians were using X-rays.
The CAT scan, or CT scan, came about in the late 1960s and beginning of the 1970s. A CT scan takes many X-ray pictures from several angles to make a 3D cross section of what it is imaging — bones, organs and other soft tissue.

The newly retired, if you don’t watch them, will squander much of their Final Expenses years watching YouTube films: Retirement Doesn’t Suck All That Bad; Bingo Like the Big Dogs; and my favorite, Cheating at Scrabble—Who’ll Notice? Using bubbly drivel, the print media will contribute budget and travel nuggets that claim inside cabins on cruise ships aren’t the end of the world. They are. And that people live like Kardashians on a Social Security check. They don’t.
